A Kenyan national has tragically lost his life while fighting for the Russian armed forces in Eastern Ukraine. The deceased has been identified as Clinton Nyapara Mogesa.
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence confirmed Mogesa’s death, reporting that his body was discovered at a Russian position in the Donetsk region following a deadly assault operation.
According to the report, Mogesa had previously lived and worked in Qatar before signing a contract with the Russian military. Despite minimal training, he was deployed to the frontlines of combat.
At the time his body was found, Mogesa reportedly carried passports belonging to two other Kenyan nationals, believed to be fellow recruits.
Ukrainian intelligence warned that foreign nationals risk being forcibly deployed into combat with little chance of survival if they accept employment in Russia.
The family of the deceased has yet to receive official communication from Russian authorities regarding the death.
This incident comes weeks after the Kenyan government, through the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, rescued 18 citizens who had been fighting in Russia and repatriated them home.
