Nobody is Above the Law: DCI Asked to Arrest IG Kanja and CS Kipchumba Murkomen Despite Their Positions

On Monday afternoon, DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take legal action against the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking in Nairobi, Gachagua said that according to the Kenyan Constitution, nobody is above the law. He stressed that regardless of the office a person holds, anyone found guilty of breaking the law must face justice in court.

Gachagua accused CS Murkomen and IG Kanja of allowing police officers to teargas and intimidate innocent Kenyans during events organized by opposition leaders.

He argued that such actions cannot go unpunished and that accountability must be enforced at all levels of government.

He added that opposition leaders recently visited the office of the IG in Nairobi to demand answers about why officers were harassing citizens. However, he said the IG did not appear to respond to their concerns.

Gachagua emphasized that it is now the role of the DCI to ensure that both the IG and CS Murkomen are held accountable and that the law takes its course.

He called on authorities to act swiftly, reminding Kenyans that justice should be applied equally to everyone, no matter how high their position.

The DCP leader’s call has reignited discussions on accountability and the rule of law in Kenya, highlighting the public demand for transparency and fairness in handling cases involving senior government officials.
