Munya Breaks Silence After Viral Photo With Ruto Sparks Political Speculation

Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has addressed claims surrounding a viral photograph showing him alongside President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

In a statement, Munya firmly dismissed assertions that he had held a secret or private meeting with the Head of State. He clarified that the image had been taken out of context and misinterpreted amid heightened political realignments.

Photo Resurfaces After Opposition Event

The photograph resurfaced just hours after Munya joined other opposition leaders in Kisii County for an event where Dr. Fred Matiang'i was sworn in as the Abagusii spokesperson by the Gusii Council of Elders.

The ceremony took place at Ekerenyo Ward North in Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira County, bringing together a cross-section of political figures from across the country.

Among those present were Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, among other regional leaders and supporters.

Growing Political Alignments Ahead of 2027

Munya’s appearance at the event came days after the Party of National Unity (PNU) declared its support for Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The move signaled a broader opposition consolidation, including collaboration with the Jubilee Party.

On February 18, 2026, Jubilee Party announced via its official Facebook page that it had reached an agreement with PNU to work together ahead of the next polls.

Part of the statement read:

“Today signifies an important chapter in our nation’s political history. Jubilee Party and the Party of National Unity (PNU) have officially committed to working together, driven by a mutual belief that Kenya deserves leadership that is consistent, experienced, and focused on the people.”

The statement further praised Matiang’i’s public service record and cited both parties’ experience in governance and nation-building as a foundation for their partnership.

Political Temperature Rising

Munya’s clarification appears aimed at dispelling doubts about his political position amid growing opposition unity.

With alliances beginning to take shape ahead of 2027, political observers note that such viral moments are likely to fuel speculation in an already charged environment.

As Kenya’s political landscape continues to shift, statements and images alike are becoming powerful tools in shaping public perception and momentum.
