Former Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has officially announced his candidacy for the Meru County gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, following extensive consultations across the county.
Linturi said he engaged residents in all nine constituencies, both directly on the ground and through TV and radio, and that citizens expressed a strong desire to see him vie for the top county seat.
“Having listened to the people of Meru across the nine constituencies… I have now accepted,” Linturi stated.
Political Implications
Linturi’s entry signals a competitive gubernatorial race in Meru, expected to draw both seasoned politicians and emerging leaders.
His supporters highlight his national government experience as valuable for county administration, focusing on economic growth, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Campaign conversations are likely to center on development record, service delivery, and unity politics.
For now, Linturi plans to focus on engaging residents and building consensus on county development priorities, setting an early tone for succession politics in Meru ahead of 2027.
