Former Kieni MP Kanini Kega has publicly responded to today’s headline by The Standard Newspaper, which alleged that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has been captured by President William Ruto.
Taking to his official Facebook page, Kega shared an image of the newspaper’s front page and weighed in on the claims. The publication reported that senior figures within ODM have accused President Ruto of exerting influence from State House.
It further referenced allegations of shadowy funding and behind-the-scenes meetings aimed at aligning ODM with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of next year’s general elections.
Reacting to the reports, Kega suggested that ODM has already lost its footing. In his post, he wrote:
His remarks imply that the party may have already shifted direction politically, particularly amid internal divisions over support for President Ruto’s possible re-election bid.
The comments come at a time when ODM is experiencing visible internal rivalry. A section of party leaders has expressed support for closer cooperation with President Ruto, while another faction remains strongly opposed to any political alignment.
Kega’s reaction has further fueled debate about ODM’s future and the broader political realignments taking shape ahead of the upcoming elections.
