The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has entered a new phase following the official resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Marjan Hussein Marjan.
Soon after the announcement, the Commission issued a statement clarifying that Marjan’s exit was the result of a mutually agreed and well-structured transition. The IEBC emphasized that the decision was guided by the need for continuity and institutional stability.
Marjan’s departure marks the conclusion of a long chapter at the electoral body. He joined the Commission in 2015 and later rose to the position of Commission Secretary and CEO, serving during some of the most challenging electoral periods in Kenya’s recent history.
In a message to IEBC staff, Marjan expressed appreciation for the team’s dedication and professionalism. He commended employees for their resilience, particularly during the 2022 General Election and the transition that followed.
Rather than focusing on the pressures of the role, Marjan encouraged staff to remain committed to integrity, professionalism, and the rule of law as they discharge their duties.
The Commission indicated that the structured handover was intended to avoid disruption and ensure smooth operations as the IEBC prepares for future electoral processes.
Marjan’s resignation comes at a critical time as the Commission works to rebuild public confidence and strengthen its institutional capacity ahead of upcoming elections.
The IEBC has reassured the public that the leadership transition is being managed carefully and that the Commission remains fully functional during this period.
