Edwin Sifuna Pauses Linda Mwananchi Coastal Rallies to Respect Ramadan

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has announced a temporary pause of the Linda Mwananchi rallies in selected coastal towns to respect the ongoing Ramadan season.

The decision comes after appeals from Muslim elders who requested that organizers avoid daytime events that could disrupt fasting and evening prayers. The holy month, which began in mid-February, runs through March.

The announcement was made during a gathering in Kakamega County, attended by several MPs and governors from the ODM party.

Organizers emphasized that the tour will continue in other counties not affected by the pause, noting that coastal towns have larger Muslim populations where managing turnout and order during daytime events is more challenging.

Recent stops on the tour had also faced security challenges linked to clashes and police action, prompting organizers to review safety measures as part of the decision.

Mombasa County, originally scheduled for a later leg of the tour, will now wait until after Ramadan before new dates are announced.

Officials reiterated their commitment to reach citizens while respecting cultural and religious practices.
