Busia ODM Officials Criticize Secretary General Edwin Sifuna Over Party Divisions

Busia County Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials have publicly criticized the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of deepening divisions at a time when unity is most needed.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, the officials said that while they respect Sifuna’s role, his recent actions have strained relationships within the party.

They claimed that persistent public attacks on fellow party members are weakening ODM’s internal structures and creating unnecessary friction across counties.

The Busia ODM leaders urged Sifuna to focus on reconciliation, warning that continued confrontational politics could erode the party’s support base.

They called on him to collaborate with party officials at both county and national levels instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric.

In their statement, the officials emphasized the importance of supporting ODM party leader Oburu Odinga, whom they described as a unifying figure capable of strengthening the party.

“We respect the office of the secretary general, but unity must come first. Attacking fellow party members does not help ODM. We want him to support Oburu Odinga so that the party can move forward as one,” said one official.

The leaders added that ODM has the potential to emerge stronger if its top leadership works together, highlighting that internal cohesion would enhance the party’s national influence and better prepare it for upcoming political contests.

Their remarks come amid growing debates within ODM, as members continue to express differing views on the party’s direction.

The officials concluded by appealing for dialogue, mutual respect, and a focus on unity, insisting that a united ODM remains vital for supporters across the country.
