Media personality and controversial blogger Maverick Aoko is reportedly in serious trouble after reports emerged that a case has allegedly been filed at a police station accusing her of defaming Mama Ida Odinga on social media.
According to the reports, the complaint has drawn the attention of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who are said to be looking into the matter.
Sources close to the issue claim that Maverick Aoko has been making insensitive remarks about Mama Ida Odinga across different social media platforms.
The remarks allegedly came at a sensitive time following the death of Mama Ida Odinga’s husband, a period when many Kenyans expected respect and restraint.
The statements are said to have harmed her image and triggered anger among members of the public online.
It has further emerged that Mama Ida Odinga is not the only person who feels aggrieved by Maverick Aoko’s statements. An ODM Member of County Assembly (MCA) has also accused the blogger of defaming him in the past.
The MCA revealed that he went ahead and filed a complaint with officers from the DCI, who later assured him that the matter was being handled.
According to the ODM MCA, DCI officers allegedly informed him that Maverick Aoko would be arrested to face the accusations leveled against her. However, by the time of publishing, there had been no official communication from the DCI confirming the arrest.
The story has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some Kenyans calling for responsible online conduct, while others are debating freedom of expression.
