On Friday, Eugene Wamalwa echoed Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya after criticizing President William Ruto’s government.
Wamalwa accused the government of focusing too much on building affordable houses while ignoring the need to create industries where Kenyans can find jobs. According to him, houses alone cannot solve the economic problems people are facing.
In a statement reported by some sources, Wamalwa said that even if the government builds many houses, most Kenyans cannot afford to pay rent because they do not have jobs.
He urged the government to find ways to create employment opportunities by encouraging industrial growth, as Natembeya had suggested.
Wamalwa noted that building homes without addressing job creation will not improve the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
However, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma disagreed with Natembeya’s view. Kaluma said that the governor does not fully understand who is responsible for building industries.
He faulted Natembeya for criticizing Ruto’s government over an issue that, according to him, is beyond the government’s direct role.
In a statement, Kaluma explained that industries are built by private investors and not by the government. He urged Governor Natembeya to focus on creating a business-friendly environment in Trans Nzoia that can attract investors to set up industries.
According to the report by people daily, Kaluma stressed that criticizing the government every day will not bring any factories or jobs to the region.
He encouraged local leaders to find practical ways to make their counties attractive for business rather than relying on government handouts.
