Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has drawn widespread admiration after sharing photos of herself actively working at her poultry business, alongside the caption: “Masaa ni ya side hustle. January nayo sio mchezo. What’s your side hustle?”
The post sparked hundreds of reactions, with Kenyans applauding her strong work ethic and hands-on approach. Un Ta Med commented, “Lessons from our number one poultry farmer, WSR,” while Francis Kabingu praised her directly: “Excellent!! Well done. Good work. May God continue blessing you.”
Some comments added humor to the praise. Flo Flo wrote in Kikuyu, “Hee wiraa ninjui nginya kuinirraa nguk igacungaa,” which prompted laughter from the Governor herself. Boda Boda Nakuru remarked, “Hassle ni boda boda na side hassle ni Roda,” reflecting Kenya’s popular hustle culture.
Others highlighted leadership lessons. Hon Emmanuel Kipyegon stated, “Leadership by example is powerful. Seeing our Governor Susan Kihika embrace farming shows that agriculture is real business and no work is small.” He added that agribusiness can “create income, inspire farmers, and strengthen our economy.”
Several commenters expressed interest in learning from her venture. Vinnie Stario asked, “I need a benchmark on this,” while Hon Toroitich said, “On my 3rd year, there’s a project I am pursuing on aloe vs diseases… Takujia sample kwa farm yako.”
The overwhelming response shows that Kenyans view Kihika’s poultry business as a symbol of discipline, leadership, and practical income generation—not a publicity stunt.
