Former Chief Justice and United Green Movement (UGM) flagbearer David Maraga has unveiled an education reform plan he intends to implement if elected president.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Maraga said his “Okatiba government” would prioritize the rule of law and ensure education is treated as a national duty.
Maraga pledged that public funds would follow the needs of learners rather than be diverted by officials, with financing that is transparent, predictable, and accountable.
He emphasized that resources should reach classrooms and not get lost in bureaucracy or patronage networks.
The former CJ highlighted challenges facing teachers, including being overstretched, under-supported, and excluded from reform processes. He vowed to restore dignity to the profession by ensuring timely and adequate pay.
On infrastructure, Maraga noted overcrowded classrooms, inadequate labs, and insufficient learning materials, citing examples such as Dandora, where some classrooms hold up to 160 pupils.
He called the situation unacceptable and blamed entrenched corruption for undermining education quality.
Maraga’s plan seeks to ensure every child receives quality education regardless of income, location, disability, or gender, with integrity and accountability at the core of his government.
