Githunguri MP Accuses Gachagua of Intimidation Over Party Politics

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has publicly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly intimidating her to leave the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

On Monday, January 5, Wamuchomba said she had faced constant pressure from Gachagua and his allies to decamp to the DCP.

“Now Wamunyoro is attempting to intimidate me through coercion and constant assaults to join DCP. I need to lay bare facts for him,” Wamuchomba wrote on her X account.

The lawmaker accused Gachagua of using political allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa, to pressure pro-government leaders in the Mt Kenya region.

She said, “He is using Senator Karungo to demean those not in the ‘Mlima’ party. Karungo is still a UDA senator screaming about another party.”

Wamuchomba emphasized that she would remain in UDA until 2027, questioning the strength of DCP.

“If this party is really strong, why can’t Methu, Karungo, and Nyutu resign first, then we elect them through their new party? I’m not joining that party,” she added.

The MP, once a strong supporter of Gachagua, has now become one of his fiercest critics. Their fallout began last year after she skipped Gachagua’s DCP party launch in May, highlighting tensions over his perceived attempts to monopolize Mt Kenya politics.
