The media fraternity is in mourning following the death of Rashid Mukoya Idi, a senior videographer at the Standard Group, who passed away while undergoing treatment in Nairobi.
According to information shared by family members, Mukoya died on Wednesday, December 25, after collapsing earlier at the Standard Group offices. He was rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention but did not recover.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether he had any underlying medical condition prior to the incident.
Mukoya was a respected member of the Standard Group’s editorial team, where he served as a senior videographer. He joined the media house in 2013 and played a key role in strengthening visual journalism across its television, print, and digital platforms.
During his more than a decade-long career, Mukoya earned recognition for his excellence in storytelling. Among his most notable achievements was winning the 2016 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award, which he received alongside journalist Asha Mwilu.
Colleagues remember him as a dedicated professional whose work significantly elevated the quality of visual content within the organisation.
His passing comes barely two weeks after the death of Festus Amimo, the Head of Radio at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and host of Mayienga FM’s popular morning show, Gari Mokinyi.
Mayienga FM described Amimo’s death as a major loss to the broadcasting industry, remembering him as a passionate and committed journalist.
Tributes continue to pour in from journalists, media houses, and government officials, with many hailing Mukoya as a humble professional whose contribution to Kenyan journalism will be deeply missed.
