President William Ruto on Monday took part in the Baringo Cultural Festival, attending the renowned Kimalel goat auction. This year, over 4,200 goats were made available for bidding.
The annual festival, which began on December 20, runs through to December 22, offering locals and visitors a chance to celebrate Baringo’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking ahead of the auction, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi encouraged residents, leaders, and tourists to support local farmers by purchasing goats for the festive celebrations.
“To ensure everyone can participate, we’ve paired the in-person auction with an online platform called E-Farmer. Buyers who cannot attend the event can place their orders online, and the goats will be delivered directly to them,” Cheboi explained.
The festival also serves as a platform to showcase Baringo’s scenic landscapes and wildlife, aiming to attract both domestic and international tourists.
Additionally, the event is part of the county’s broader push toward gaining recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark, highlighting its cultural and natural significance.
