The Ministry of Education has released Grade 10 placement results for candidates who sat the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), marking the next step for students transitioning from Grade 9 to senior secondary school. Senior school in Kenya, covering Grades 10 to 12, is scheduled to officially begin in January 2026.
How to Access Placement Results
Students and parents can check placements through multiple channels:
SMS Option: Send your KNEC assessment number to 22263. The service costs Sh30 per SMS and provides the assigned school.
Online Portal: Visit selection.education.go.ke to view detailed placement results, including school, pathway, accommodation, and special considerations. The portal is part of the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).
The Placement System
The Grade 10 School and Career Pathway Selection System allows learners to choose preferred career pathways and subject combinations under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
Pathways include STEM, Arts & Sports, and Social Sciences, with schools offering single or multiple pathways.
Students can also select schools based on accommodation type (day, hybrid), gender structure, and support for special needs, ensuring placements are equitable and inclusive.
Performance and Cohort Overview
The 2025 KJSEA results involved 1,130,459 learners (578,630 male, 551,829 female), the first cohort to complete junior secondary under CBC.
Performance levels are reported descriptively using EE1 (Exceeding Expectations) to BE2 (Below Expectations).
Strong results were recorded in Hindu Religious Education, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Creative Arts & Sports, Kiswahili, CRE, and Agriculture, while Mathematics and Kenyan Sign Language had lower performance levels.
Preparing for Senior School
Parents and students are advised to review placement results promptly, confirm all details, and plan for enrolment. The Ministry has assured support for learners requiring transfers or adjustments due to special circumstances.
The new placement system represents a major step in streamlining student transitions under the CBC, ensuring that learners are guided toward pathways that align with their talents, interests, and future aspirations.
