CS Tuya Visits KDF Troops in Somalia, Praises Their Sacrifice

Kismayo, Somalia, December 20, 2025 — Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has extended her heartfelt appreciation to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) in Somalia, recognising their dedication and sacrifice during the festive season.

Accompanied by Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, CS Tuya visited KDF troops in Kismayo to reinforce government support and honour soldiers serving far from home during a period traditionally reserved for family gatherings.

“The discipline, bravery, and unwavering commitment of our soldiers do not go unnoticed. Your service exemplifies the values of responsibility, service, and solidarity that define the Kenya Defence Forces,” she said.

CS Tuya highlighted the critical role KDF plays in regional peace and stability, often under challenging and risky conditions. She also acknowledged the families of deployed soldiers, recognising their resilience and sacrifice.

“My visit is in solidarity, and to express deep gratitude to the men and women serving far from home and to their families who bear the weight of sacrifice with resilience and grace,” she added.

The Defence Ministry also expressed gratitude to regional and international partners, stressing that cooperation remains key to the mission’s success. 

CS Tuya urged continued collaboration in support of peace and stability efforts, emphasising that shared purpose strengthens operations.

She further underscored the importance of support systems for soldiers’ welfare, safety, and well-being, reaffirming the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to ensuring their needs are met.

“Deployments abroad demonstrate Kenya’s commitment to continental security and showcase the professionalism and courage of our armed forces,” she noted.

During the visit, CS Tuya interacted with troops and discussed operational needs, reaffirming cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and KDF personnel while delivering a message of solidarity and appreciation from the nation.
