Defence Ministry Opens 45 Civilian Vacancies in KDF With Permanent Terms

The Ministry of Defence has announced new employment opportunities for Kenyans, advertising 45 civilian positions within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on permanent and pensionable terms.

In a notice released on Tuesday, the ministry invited qualified candidates to submit their applications using the Public Service Commission form PSC 2 (Revised 2016), available on the Public Service Commission website.

Applicants are required to attach copies of their academic and professional certificates and submit the completed forms either by post to the Office of the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, P.O. Box 40668–00100, Nairobi, or hand-deliver them to Ulinzi House via the gate off Lenana Road.

The deadline for submitting applications is January 20, 2026.

A majority of the vacancies—30 positions—are for the role of Garden Assistant III under Advert No. 1/2025. Successful candidates will earn a basic monthly salary ranging between Sh19,340 and Sh24,470, in addition to house allowance based on duty station, a commuter allowance of Sh3,000 per month, and an annual leave allowance of Sh4,000.

According to the ministry, Garden Assistants will initially serve as trainees and will be tasked with maintaining gardens, lawns, flowerbeds and landscaped areas within defence establishments, as well as other government facilities such as State House and official lodges.

Applicants for this position must hold a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of D+ (Plus) or an equivalent qualification.

The Ministry has also listed 15 vacancies for Support Staff/Sanitary Cleaners under Advert No. 2/2025. These roles come with a basic salary ranging from Sh18,250 to Sh22,720 per month, alongside house allowance, a Sh3,000 commuter allowance, and a Sh4,000 annual leave allowance.

Support Staff will be responsible for sanitation duties, carrying out messenger-related tasks and performing other assigned responsibilities. This entry-level position requires applicants to have a KCSE mean grade of D (Plain) or its equivalent, as well as a certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution.

The Ministry cautioned applicants against any form of canvassing, warning that those found engaging in it will be automatically disqualified from the recruitment process.

It further stressed that the recruitment exercise will adhere to inclusivity principles, encouraging applications from all qualified individuals regardless of gender, age, disability, religion, culture or marital status.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
