The body of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has been moved to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi following a tragic road accident that claimed his life.
Family members and close friends were present as the body arrived at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon.
Jirongo died in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, while travelling from Naivasha to Nairobi. According to police, he was driving a Mercedes-Benz saloon car when it was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus operated by Climax Sacco at the Karai area along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.
A police report indicated that the former MP died on the spot due to the impact of the crash.
The bus driver told officers that Jirongo had just exited a petrol station and joined the highway but remained on the wrong lane, allegedly attempting to bypass a traffic jam. The driver said he tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so.
“He joined the highway and came straight towards me. I tried to swerve, but the bus risked rolling, so I braked. He then hit the bus head-on,” the driver told police.
Immediately after the accident, Jirongo’s body was taken to Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary. It was later transferred to Nairobi for preservation and arrived at Lee Funeral Home shortly before noon.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family.
