President William Ruto has announced that his government has finally resolved the long-standing financial challenges facing Kenya’s public universities — a major breakthrough expected to transform the country’s higher education system.
Speaking confidently during his address, President Ruto said his administration had tackled the problems of university capitation and funding, ensuring that learning institutions now have sufficient resources to operate effectively.
“We had a problem with universities; we have resolved the issues of capitation and university funding. Now our universities are better funded to deliver on their mandate,” Ruto stated.
The declaration marks a new phase in Kenya’s education reform agenda, which has been plagued for years by funding delays, heavy debts, and overcrowded classrooms.
Under the new funding model, the government will distribute resources based on performance and student needs, ensuring a fairer and more efficient allocation of funds.
