Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has reacted to a surprising statement by Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who recently announced that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will remain part of the Broad-Based Government.
Taking to his official X account, Cherargei praised Sifuna, noting that the Nairobi senator appears to be heading in the right political direction.
Previously, Sifuna had been a vocal critic of the Broad-Based Government, claiming in an exclusive interview with a local TV station that the initiative primarily benefits the wealthy while doing little to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, or the “common Mwananchi.”
Political analysts suggest that Sifuna’s shift may be influenced by his role as the party’s Secretary-General, requiring him to align with party decisions.
A section of his supporters believes that his earlier criticisms were more reflective of party strategy than personal opinion.
There is a popular saying in politics: “Nothing is permanent.” Sifuna’s change of tune underscores the fluid and strategic nature of political maneuvering in Kenya.
Sifuna has been a prominent critic of President William Ruto’s administration, previously accusing him of corruption and dishonesty.
