The United Opposition, led by former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, has scored a major political victory in the Western region after a prominent leader defected from National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford-Kenya party to join the DAP-Kenya movement.
In a statement shared online, Eugene Wamalwa celebrated the move, saying:
“Hongera Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy for your decision to join the DAP-Kenya Party.”
Dr. Kibunguchy’s defection marks a significant boost for DAP-Kenya, one of the key parties under the United Opposition alliance, which also includes the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) led by Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper under Kalonzo Musyoka, among others.
Political analysts say this move strengthens the United Opposition’s grip in Western Kenya as the country heads toward the 2027 general elections.
The coalition is expected to capitalize on such strategic realignments to challenge President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
