An emotional scene unfolded in Gathoge, Embu County, as thousands of Kenyans travelled from across the country to stand with Mama Gift, a young mother whose story has touched hearts nationwide.
Mama Gift’s son, Baby Gift, was born with cerebral palsy, chronic asthma, and a heart condition — challenges that have tested her strength both financially and emotionally. To make matters worse, her baby daddy reportedly abandoned her, saying such conditions “don’t run in their family.”
But Kenyans refused to let her suffer alone. On October 25, the small Embu village turned into a sea of compassion as well-wishers, youths, and online supporters showed up in large numbers. Matatus, boda bodas, and private cars jammed the roads as crowds carried food, medical supplies, and gifts.
“Here there’s no tribe or politics — just Kenyans helping one of their own,” said one volunteer amid cheers and vuvuzelas.
The event, streamed live on social media, raised substantial funds for Mama Gift’s family and drew emotional reactions from TikTok users who had followed her story.
“We are humbled — serving the community is serving God,” one user commented.
Many praised the unity and compassion shown by Kenyans, saying it proves the younger generation is “rewriting Kenya’s story through love and humanity.”
For Mama Gift, the day ended in tears of gratitude. Surrounded by strangers who had become family, she whispered,
“I thought I was alone — but now I know I have a whole country behind me.”
