President William Ruto on Thursday visited the family of the late former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo at their Gigiri residence in Nairobi, where he offered condolences and words of encouragement following the veteran politician’s death.
Accompanied by senior government officials, the President described Jirongo as a close ally and an influential figure whose impact stretched across politics, business and public service.
Ruto praised the former minister as a courageous, energetic and forward-thinking leader, noting that his legacy would be remembered for years to come.
During the visit, the President urged the bereaved family to remain steadfast in faith as they navigate the difficult moment. He reminded mourners of God’s presence in times of grief, quoting Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Jirongo died on the spot after the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway.
A postmortem examination later confirmed that he succumbed to severe blunt force injuries sustained during the road accident.
The President expressed solidarity with the family, friends and supporters of the late leader, saying the nation had lost a dedicated public servant and visionary entrepreneur.
