In August 2007, U.S. Army Private First Class Brendan Schweigart was taking part in a mission to recover a disabled tank near Rustamiyah, Iraq, when an enemy sniper opened fire. During the attack, he was struck by 22 rounds that passed through his left arm and chest, creating what seemed to be a fatal situation.
As the bullets traveled through his body, one eventually became lodged in the small Bible he had placed beneath his body armor.
