Former Kilgoris Member of Parliament and ex-Cabinet Minister Gideon Sitelu Konchellah has passed away after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest, triggering shock and grief across Narok County and the country at large... WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
Reports indicate that Konchellah died on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in circumstances linked to a sudden heart attack. News of his death quickly spread, with leaders, constituents, and political observers expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the veteran politician.
Konchellah had a long political career, serving as the Member of Parliament for Kilgoris Constituency for several terms between 2003 and 2022.
Over the years, he was affiliated with different political parties, including the Party of National Unity (PNU), the United Republican Party (URP), and later the Jubilee Party.
Beyond his parliamentary duties, he also held a Cabinet position in former President Mwai Kibaki’s government, serving as Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons between 2006 and 2007.
During his time in office, he played a key role in advancing the Refugee Act of 2006, which modernized Kenya’s refugee management system and replaced outdated colonial-era laws with a more structured legal framework for refugee protection and registration.
After serving in Parliament and government for many years, he later stepped aside from the Kilgoris seat ahead of the 2022 General Election, opting to contest the Narok County Senate seat, a race he did not win.
At the time of reporting, official details regarding funeral arrangements had not yet been released by the family or relevant authorities.
Current Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli confirmed the news, describing Konchellah as both his predecessor and successor in the constituency, and praising his long service spanning two decades.
Tributes continue to pour in from across the political divide, with many remembering him as an influential leader who left a lasting mark on politics in Narok and beyond.
