In an interview with Tales Extra, a Kenyan woman who once worked in Saudi Arabia shared the painful experiences she endured while employed abroad. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
She explained that she had traveled with hopes of finding better employment opportunities to improve her life and support her family in Kenya. However, things did not turn out as expected, as she found herself trapped in a deeply troubling situation.
According to her, the mistreatment started almost immediately after she began working. She alleged that members of the household, including her employer and his family, subjected her to daily abuse.
“It felt like I was in hell,” she recalled.
She went on to describe how the abuse followed a consistent daily pattern. In the mornings, her employer would insult her and at times physically assault her.
Later in the afternoon, his wife would continue the mistreatment, and in the evening, their sons would also join in.
She further revealed that about two months before her contract ended, her employer stopped paying her wages, claiming the money would go toward covering her upkeep, including food and accommodation.
Despite everything she went through, she chose not to report the abuse since she was nearing the end of her contract.
After finally returning to Kenya, she decided she would never again seek employment in Saudi Arabia.
Her story highlights the harsh and often unseen challenges faced by some domestic workers abroad, where dreams of a better future can sometimes turn into painful experiences.
