A Nairobi woman, identified as Martha Ochieng, has come forward with disturbing allegations regarding her treatment while in police custody, raising renewed concerns about the safety and rights of detainees. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
Martha says her ordeal began after she was arrested over what she describes as a minor traffic-related issue and taken to a local police station.
According to her, she expected to be processed according to standard procedures, but claims that proper protocol was not followed.
She alleges that officers placed her in a holding cell meant for male suspects, despite her protests and visible distress. She further claims that her concerns were ignored by the officers on duty at the time.
While inside the cell, Martha says she was subjected to intimidation, verbal abuse, and threats from male detainees.
She alleges that the situation later escalated into a violent attack that left her injured and emotionally traumatised.
She states that she was eventually released after a friend intervened and helped secure her freedom. Following the incident, she sought medical treatment and psychological support before deciding to publicly share her story in search of justice.
Martha has accused the police of negligence and abuse of power, arguing that her suffering resulted from a failure to observe basic detention safeguards.
Her allegations have since drawn strong reactions from legal experts, who say that if proven true, the case would amount to a serious violation of constitutional rights and policing standards.
Human rights organisations have called for immediate investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), urging accountability for those involved.
Activists are also demanding disciplinary action and possible prosecution of any officers found responsible.
The case has sparked widespread debate on police accountability and the protection of women in custody, with advocates calling for stricter enforcement of detention rules and deeper reforms within Kenya’s law enforcement system.
