A young Kenyan woman has sparked heated reactions online after narrating her frustration over allegedly being denied a waitress job despite confidently believing she had all the requirements—including what she described as “good looks and attractive curves.” WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the lady appears visibly disappointed as she questions why she was not selected for the position, claiming she met most of the basic expectations but still got rejected during the interview process.
“Aki na venye niko na nyash mzuri, nilifikiri angalau hiyo ingesaidia kupata kazi ya waitress,” she is heard saying in the clip, expressing disbelief at the outcome.
According to her, the interview process went well at first, but later she was informed that she had not made it to the final shortlist. She says this left her shocked, especially because she believed physical appearance plays a big role in such service jobs.
The video has since gone viral, attracting mixed reactions from Kenyans online. Some sympathized with her disappointment and encouraged her not to lose hope, while others criticized her mindset, arguing that professionalism, communication skills, discipline, and experience matter more than looks when it comes to hiring.
Others also pointed out that many hospitality employers prioritize customer service ability and reliability over physical appearance, advising job seekers to focus more on building skills and improving their CVs instead of relying on looks.
However, a section of social media users defended her, saying her frustration reflects the harsh reality many young people face in Kenya’s competitive job market.
As the debate continues online, the lady has not yet stated whether she plans to reapply elsewhere or challenge the decision, but her video continues to circulate widely across TikTok and other platforms.
The incident has once again sparked discussion about youth unemployment, job expectations, and the role of appearance in hiring decisions within Kenya’s service industry.
