A tragic family dispute in Navakholo Sub-County in Kakamega County has left one man dead after a confrontation between two brothers turned violent.
The incident occurred on the morning of April 10, 2026, at about 6:02 a.m., according to police reports.
Authorities identified the deceased as Solomon Wesanza Amumbwa, while his younger brother, Stephen Akhanu, has been named as the main suspect.
Police indicated that the conflict began after Akhanu accused his elder brother of taking his mobile phone and money.
The accusation is said to have sparked a heated argument that quickly escalated into physical violence.
During the confrontation, Amumbwa reportedly sustained injuries to his leg.
In the course of the altercation, he is believed to have set his brother’s house on fire.
In response, Akhanu allegedly retaliated by burning down Amumbwa’s house before attacking him using crude weapons.
As a result of the assault, Amumbwa suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.
Investigators further stated that the suspect went on to burn the victim’s body after the fatal attack.
Officers from Navakholo and Makunga police stations, alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Navakholo, visited the scene to document evidence and begin enquiries.
The body of the deceased was later taken to the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large, as investigations into the incident continue.
