RIP: Sad as Kakamega School Principal Found Dead, Body Decomposing Days After Receiving Disturbing Messages from Suppliers

Carolyne Khamete, the principal at Kakamega County Polytechnic, had reportedly been receiving worrying calls and messages from suppliers in the days before her body was discovered on the shores of Lake Victoria, already decomposing, according to her family.

The middle-aged principal had been missing for more than a week before her body was found in Kisumu, leaving her relatives and the wider community in shock and demanding answers.

Carolyne’s mother revealed that her daughter had confided in her about the threats she was receiving.

“Mama, when I look around, I am worried. There are people who keep calling; they are suppliers who delivered items to the school, but the Kakamega County Government has not paid them,” she said.

The family believes the callers were frustrated suppliers pressuring the polytechnic over delayed payments.

On the last day she was seen alive, Carolyne reportedly went to work as usual. Her husband dropped her at the college in the morning and later returned to pick documents she had forgotten.

While at the college, she received a call requesting certain documents. According to relatives, she said she was going to see the director, but after that, she never answered her phone again.

The family remains confused about what happened after she left the campus and how her body ended up in Kisumu.

Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa expressed his sadness in a statement on March 27, 2026, and praised Carolyne for her dedication to service.

He noted that she joined the county government in 2015, initially serving at Matioli County Polytechnic before being transferred to Kakamega County Polytechnic.

The governor described her as passionate about technical education and credited her with helping many young trainees, especially those who had dropped out of formal schooling.

The discovery of her body has sparked public outrage, with many Kenyans calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Some have also linked the incident to ongoing challenges in county technical institutions, particularly delays in payments to suppliers.
