Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has alleged that his driver and personal assistant was arrested and detained by detectives in an incident that has raised public concern and debate.
Tuju said his aide, identified as Steve Mwanga, was arrested on Wednesday and taken to Lang’ata Police Station, where he was reportedly held in police cells as investigations continued.
He claimed that Mwanga, who also serves as his personal aide, was picked up under unclear circumstances, and that he was not immediately informed about the arrest.
Tuju further stated that he had been recovering from a serious medical condition after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Karen Hospital following what he described as earlier mistreatment by police officers.
He explained that at the time of the incident, he was asleep and under strong medication, saying painkillers had left him drowsy as he continued recovering at home.
According to him, he only learned about the arrest hours later after relatives and close associates chose not to wake him due to his fragile health condition.
Tuju’s legal team later visited both his residence and the police station, but he claimed that efforts to secure bond for Mwanga were unsuccessful, raising concerns over how the matter was being handled.
He also alleged that there was increased police presence around Dari Business Park, which he described as intimidating, though authorities have not publicly responded to these claims.
Tuju maintained that despite his health challenges, he would remain calm and focused on recovery while closely monitoring developments involving his aide’s arrest.
The matter continues to attract attention as the public awaits further clarification from law enforcement agencies.
