Western Kenya Leaders Rally Behind Ruto, Promise Strong Support Ahead of 2027 Elections

Key political leaders from Western Kenya have thrown their weight firmly behind President William Ruto, pledging to mobilise a strong voting bloc for his re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The leaders dismissed ongoing debates about the Deputy President position, saying the main focus should remain on securing votes for the President.

Speaking to supporters in Mautuma Ward in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who also serves as Deputy Regional Coordinator for Ruto’s campaign, said discussions surrounding the Deputy President role are a distraction from the region’s primary objective of rallying support for the Head of State.

“Our priority is to deliver votes from the region, which were previously going to Raila Odinga, to President Ruto,” Savula said.

He emphasised that Western Kenya leaders are working to consolidate more than 2.6 million potential votes from the region in favour of the President.

Western Kenya includes counties such as Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, and Busia. According to the leaders, the region is planning to vote as a united bloc in support of Ruto’s re-election bid.

Savula also pointed to the region’s long-term political ambitions, saying that while the immediate goal is to support the President in 2027, Western Kenya should also begin preparing leaders who can compete for the presidency in future elections.

Among those he mentioned as possible presidential contenders in the 2032 General Election are Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang'ula, and Wycliffe Oparanya.

Savula added that Western Kenya’s growing support for Ruto is largely driven by development projects initiated by the government in the region, which he said have strengthened loyalty among local residents.
