Shock as Opposition Leaders Kalonzo and Gachagua Unite to Challenge Ruto Government Over Controversial Infrastructure Bill

According to available reports, the political atmosphere in Nairobi shifted significantly today after opposition leaders addressed the media under the newly formed United Alternative Government (UAG).

The moment marked a major step in the growing resistance against the administration of William Ruto.

The team, led by Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, presented a united front that many observers say highlights a deepening political divide in the country.

The leaders appeared together during a press briefing and signaled that the opposition is now coordinating its efforts more aggressively.

During the address, the leaders strongly opposed the National Infrastructure Bill 2026, urging Members of Parliament to reject the proposed legislation completely.

They argued that the bill could place a heavy burden on taxpayers at a time when many Kenyans are already struggling with the rising cost of living.

According to the opposition team, the proposed infrastructure fund also lacks sufficient transparency and accountability mechanisms.

They claimed that approving such a massive financial structure without clear oversight could expose public funds to misuse.

The leaders also criticized the Ministry of Interior over the ongoing passport controversy, claiming that foreigners had allegedly been issued sensitive clearance documents.

They described the issue as a serious failure of government systems rather than a simple technical problem.

In their remarks, the opposition questioned how a government that promotes a “Digital Highway” agenda could still struggle with basic services like passport processing. They argued that such failures affect the dignity and global mobility of Kenyan citizens.

While the appearance of Rigathi Gachagua alongside Kalonzo Musyoka drew significant attention, political observers also noted the absence of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i. His absence sparked speculation about whether he is fully aligned with the emerging coalition.

Despite the questions surrounding some of its members, the press conference made one message clear: the opposition is now attempting to organize itself into a structured political force rather than simply criticizing the government.

Political analysts say the coming weeks in Parliament will determine whether this

“Alternative Government” can influence legislative decisions or whether the move will remain largely symbolic.
