Fresh political tension has emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after several lawmakers believed to be rebels attended an important Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting in Nairobi.
The meeting took place at Parliament Buildings and was chaired by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga. The meeting brought together ODM lawmakers from different parts of the country as the party continues to deal with internal disagreements.
Among those who attended were Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, leaders who are linked to the Linda Mwananchi faction within the party. Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Ombane was also present.
Their presence quickly attracted attention and raised questions about the direction of ODM politics. The Linda Mwananchi group, which is associated with ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, has recently been active in several regions including western Kenya and parts of Nairobi.
Leaders of this faction say their main goal is to defend the interests of ordinary citizens and strengthen the party’s original political values.
However, some of them have also raised concerns about recent party decisions and cooperation with other political groups.
Another group within the party known as Linda Ground supports strengthening ODM structures at the grassroots level as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Although no disciplinary action was announced after the meeting, political observers say the attendance of these outspoken leaders shows that internal debates within ODM are still ongoing.
The party leadership is now expected to work carefully to maintain unity as political competition continues to grow.
