Sakaja Launches New Nairobi–National Government Partnership to Speed Up Projects

Johnson Sakaja recently chaired a high-level meeting to kick-start a new cooperation framework between the national government and Nairobi City County, aimed at accelerating development projects in the capital.

The meeting, held at City Hall Nairobi, brought together Principal Secretaries and representatives from several ministries and state agencies.

The gathering signaled a renewed effort to strengthen collaboration between the national and county governments in implementing key urban projects.

Governor Sakaja said the partnership is designed to fast-track several long-delayed development initiatives in Nairobi. By working together, both levels of government hope to streamline processes, overcome bureaucratic hurdles, and improve service delivery for city residents.

The initiative will be coordinated through a newly formed Joint Steering Committee, which will oversee the implementation of projects under the broader “Nairobi Rising” programme.

The programme outlines a strategic vision to transform the capital through coordinated planning, infrastructure development, and better urban management.

Sakaja emphasized that closer cooperation between national and county authorities will help unlock stalled projects and ensure resources are used more efficiently.

He noted that combining expertise and funding from both governments could significantly improve the pace and quality of development across the city.

Officials believe the partnership could play a key role in addressing long-standing challenges facing Nairobi, including infrastructure gaps, urban planning issues, and service delivery delays.

Through the Nairobi Rising programme, leaders hope to guide the city toward more sustainable growth while improving the overall living conditions for millions of residents.
