Ruto Joins Wanga and Oburu Oginga to Launch Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo

William Ruto on March 8, 2026, joined Gladys Wanga and Oburu Oginga to officially launch the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo.

The initiative, spearheaded by Senator Oburu Oginga, aims to empower young people in the region by providing access to digital skills training and opportunities in the digital economy, particularly in the growing field of business process outsourcing (BPO).

Governor Wanga highlighted the importance of the hub, describing it as a dedicated space where youth in Siaya County can learn modern technological skills, nurture their talents, and build careers in technology-driven industries.

She attended the launch alongside President Ruto, emphasizing that the project could help drive economic inclusion and innovation at the grassroots level.

Photos from the event showed the President unveiling a plaque, addressing a large crowd, and interacting with attendees at the packed venue—an indication of the community’s enthusiasm for the initiative and its potential benefits.

The launch, however, occurred amid notable political dynamics in the region. James Orengo was absent from the ceremony, with his deputy representing the county leadership instead.

His absence sparked discussions online and in political circles, with some observers linking it to differences in political alignments within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and broader debates over cooperation with the national government.

Despite the political undertones, the focus of the event remained on youth empowerment and digital advancement.

Leaders present emphasized that the hub will help bridge the digital divide in the region by equipping young people with critical ICT skills that can enhance employability and support entrepreneurship.

President Ruto and other leaders praised the project as a model initiative that could be replicated in other parts of the country as Kenya seeks to expand opportunities for youth and strengthen participation in the digital economy.
