Ruto Criticizes Past Sports Fund Management, Promises Change With Talanta Stadium

William Ruto has criticized the performance of the country’s sports funding system over the past two decades, saying it failed to deliver meaningful progress despite collecting significant amounts of money.

Speaking during a recent address, the President said the fund that was established to transform sports infrastructure did not achieve the results many Kenyans expected during its 20-year existence. According to him, the country waited for too long to see real development in the sports sector.

Ruto explained that several initiatives funded in the past were poorly implemented, leaving behind limited visible achievements. He insisted that the situation must change and promised that his administration will ensure public resources are used more effectively.

Talanta Stadium as a New Beginning

The President highlighted the planned Talanta Stadium as a symbol of a new direction in sports investment.

According to Ruto, the modern stadium will serve as proof that the current government’s funding model can deliver tangible results.

He expressed confidence that the facility will stand as a major landmark in the coming years and demonstrate how proper planning and accountability can transform national projects.

Boosting Talent and Opportunities

The Head of State said the stadium project is designed to nurture talent among young athletes and create new opportunities in the sports industry.

He added that once completed, the facility could help position Kenya as a regional hub for major sporting events while attracting international competitions.

Ruto also emphasized that his administration is committed to transparency when implementing large infrastructure projects.

He said stricter oversight and improved management systems will help prevent the mistakes that slowed progress in earlier initiatives.
