Ruto Administration Faces Backlash Over Sh60.8 Million Fake Ambulance Tender Scam

The government of President William Ruto is under intense scrutiny after senior officials in the Interior Ministry were implicated in a major corruption scandal.

The Standard newspaper reported that the Sh60.8 million fake ambulance tender was allegedly orchestrated from the office of Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo at Harambee House, the historic seat of government.

According to the report, top aides and officials in Omolo’s office deceived a foreign businessman, reportedly Swedish, into believing they could secure a government contract to supply ambulances.

The suspects even staged meetings at Harambee House to make the scheme appear legitimate, resulting in the transfer of over Sh60 million.

Seven individuals have since been arrested and charged with fraud, forgery, and obtaining money by false pretences.

The scandal has sparked widespread outrage, with many Kenyans criticizing the government for allowing senior offices to be exploited for such fraudulent activities.

Online commentators have mocked the administration, describing it as a "laughing stock" for its failure to safeguard public institutions.

The case underscores ongoing issues with fake tenders, impersonation of government authority, and vulnerabilities within public procurement processes.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of involvement by officials close to PS Omolo. The Principal Secretary has yet to respond publicly.

This incident adds to growing pressure on President Ruto’s government amid other controversies, intensifying calls for accountability, transparency, and urgent action against corruption at the highest levels.
