Rigathi Gachagua Takes “Tuko Kadi” Campaign to Nyeri as Youth Turn Out in Large Numbers

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, March 26, 2026, took the fast-growing “Tuko Kadi” campaign to Nyeri County in a lively street drive that attracted large crowds.

Gachagua arrived in a brightly branded vehicle, personally driving through the town as excited residents lined the streets chanting “Tuko Kadi” while waving their voter cards. Many youths recorded the moment on their phones, while others followed the convoy through busy streets.

His wife, Dorcas Rigathi, accompanied him during the drive, waving to the crowd as leaders from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) joined the convoy to greet residents.

The procession later stopped near offices of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in Nyeri, where Gachagua addressed hundreds of young people. He urged them to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The event was streamed live on his social media platforms, showing him interacting with traders, boda boda riders, and students gathered along the roadside.

“Tuko Kadi” Movement Gains Momentum

The “Tuko Kadi” slogan has quickly gained popularity among young Kenyans, encouraging especially first-time voters to register early. The movement was initiated by Gen Z photojournalist Allan Ademba, who described it as a people-driven campaign.

Ademba emphasized that the initiative should remain independent and not be taken over by political elites. He also criticized attempts by politicians to associate themselves with the slogan, insisting its main goal is to push youth voter registration.

Political Undercurrents Ahead of 2027

Gachagua’s Nyeri visit transformed the voter registration drive into a vibrant public rally, with volunteers distributing forms and guiding first-time voters through the registration process. Music, chants, and political messaging filled the town center.

Earlier in the week, Gachagua made remarks that circulated widely online, comparing the voter card to a “red card” that can remove ineffective leaders from office.

Observers say the growing “Tuko Kadi” movement could significantly shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, as leaders and activists increasingly focus on mobilizing young voters across the country.
