"Nilikuwa Nimevaa Vibaya Sana" Pastor's Daughter Recalls Moment Her Father Asked Her to Leave the Church Altar Over Her Dress

Yoruba Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya has opened up about the strict expectations often placed on children of religious leaders, revealing a personal experience involving her father during a church service.

Speaking during a conversation with actress and media host Biola Adebayo on the Talk To B Podcast, Adekoya reflected on the pressures she faced growing up as a pastor’s daughter.

According to the actress, the incident happened during a church service where she had been leading praise and worship.

She explained that she had worn a bodycon dress to the service, which her father—who was officiating as the pastor—felt was not appropriate for someone ministering on the altar.

Recalling the moment, Adekoya said her father asked her to step down from the altar in the middle of the service because of the outfit she was wearing.

“While singing in church, my father asked me to come down from the altar because of my dress,” she said.

Although she acknowledged that her father’s decision came from his commitment to maintaining church standards, Adekoya said the moment left a strong impression on her, especially because it happened in front of the congregation.

The actress noted that growing up as a pastor’s child often meant living under constant scrutiny from members of the church community.

According to her, expectations placed on preacher’s children can be extremely high.
She explained that the monitoring sometimes extends beyond church activities.

Adekoya revealed that people who follow her on social media occasionally report her posts to her father whenever they feel something she shared does not match their expectations of a pastor’s child.

As a result, she said she sometimes receives calls or messages from her father asking her to delete certain posts or reconsider how she presents herself online.

Adekoya added that many people tend to assume that children of religious leaders must behave perfectly at all times.

“People expect pastor’s children to act like angels,” she said, noting that such expectations often ignore the reality that they are ordinary individuals navigating life like everyone else.

The actress also pointed out what she described as a double standard, explaining that behaviors that might be overlooked in others are sometimes judged more harshly when they involve children of pastors or other religious leaders.

Her comments have since sparked discussions online about the pressures and expectations placed on families of religious leaders.
