Nairobi ODM Delegates Endorse Winnie Odinga as Kibra Representative

Nairobi delegates from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have officially endorsed Winnie Odinga as their delegate from Kibra, a move that positions her to take a seat in the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The endorsement came during a Nairobi ODM meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF), presided over by Nairobi County Chairman George Aladwa, with Winnie Odinga in attendance.

Aladwa confirmed that the delegates had agreed on Winnie as their representative, citing the importance of having a unified position ahead of the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for March 27.

“Tume endorse Winnie Odinga kama mwakilishi wetu na kama one of the deputy leaders wa nyadhifa ya juu,” Aladwa said, noting that the decision was intended to ensure Nairobi speaks with one voice during the conference.

He added that Raila Odinga had previously served as Nairobi’s representative, and discussions on who would succeed him had been ongoing for several weeks.

“Raila Odinga alitusaidia sana… kama watu wa Nairobi tumekuwa na vikao kwa miezi kama mbili tukisema kwamba tunataka kuwa na mwakilishi,” Aladwa explained.

With this endorsement, Winnie Odinga is now set to represent Nairobi in ODM’s NEC and Central Committee. Aladwa emphasized that the move aims to stabilise the party and rally its members amid internal divisions, which have created political turbulence in recent months.
