Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has stirred fresh political debate after alleging that William Ruto is linked to a plan to take control of about 7,400 acres of land that was reportedly meant to benefit residents of Kandara and parts of Kiambu County.
Speaking on the matter, Muturi claimed that the disputed land had previously been under the management of Del Monte Kenya.
According to him, the large parcel of land should have been returned to local communities who have for years argued that the land historically belonged to them before it was leased to the multinational fruit company.
Muturi further alleged that instead of the land being allocated to residents of Kandara in Murang’a County and neighbouring areas of Kiambu County, there are attempts to take control of the land for other interests.
His remarks have quickly sparked debate among leaders and residents who have long demanded that the land be handed back to the community.
The dispute over the land associated with Del Monte Kenya is not new. For years, local leaders and residents have raised concerns about thousands of acres they claim were unfairly taken from communities and later leased to the company.
The issue has previously been discussed in Parliament, with some leaders calling for investigations into how the land was allocated.
Muturi’s latest remarks have now drawn national attention to the matter as the allegations directly mention President Ruto. However, the presidency had not immediately responded to the claims at the time of reporting.
As the debate continues, many residents in Murang’a and Kiambu counties are once again calling for transparency and a clear resolution to the long-standing land dispute, saying the land should ultimately benefit the communities they believe are the rightful owners.
