Murang’a Woman Rep Sparks Uproar After Urging Ruto to Arrest Gachagua Over Serious Claims

Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina faced strong backlash on Friday after calling on President William Ruto to arrest former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over alleged involvement in a tragic incident.

Speaking during a public event, Maina claimed she was relaying concerns from a resident of Maragua, alleging that Gachagua had impregnated a woman and was responsible for her death.

Her remarks, made openly before a crowd, quickly triggered mixed reactions, with some attendees heckling her.

The lawmaker defended her statements, saying she was speaking on behalf of a distressed constituent and insisting that justice should be served.

However, her comments drew criticism from some leaders and observers who warned that making such serious accusations publicly without verified evidence could be dangerous and undermine due process.

Analysts say the incident highlights the growing tension in Kenya’s political space, where leaders are increasingly addressing sensitive issues in highly charged public forums.

While some supported Maina for raising concerns from the ground, others questioned her approach and timing.

Attention has now shifted to how President Ruto and relevant authorities will handle the matter, with many waiting to see whether investigations will follow or if the claims will be dismissed.

The episode has further fueled debate about accountability, political responsibility, and the risks of making unverified allegations in public, especially involving high-profile figures.
