KUCCPS Reveals Universities Offering Competitive Courses with Lower Cluster Points

Kenya – The latest placement statistics from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) show that several universities are offering entry into in-demand degree programmes with lower cluster point requirements than many students expect.

This provides opportunities for students who may not have attained top marks in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) but still aspire to pursue competitive careers.

Cluster points represent the score of the last student admitted into a specific course at a university.

Opportunities Across Fields

Engineering
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology – Mechanical Engineering: 38.1 points
Technical University of Mombasa – Marine Engineering: 36.2 points
Murang’a University of Technology & Kirinyaga University – Mechatronic & Electrical Engineering: below 37 points
Health Sciences
University of Kabianga – Environmental Health: 34.9 points
Alupe University – Community Health: 34.2 points
Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology – Nursing: 37.2 points
ICT
Kibabii University & Rongo University – Information Technology and ICT courses: 31–32 points

Other Programs

Courses in business, agriculture, and social sciences are available at some universities with cluster points as low as 22.8 points.

Highly competitive institutions such as University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology continue to maintain higher cut-off points due to strong demand.

KUCCPS Advice

Students are encouraged to research widely and carefully select courses and institutions, as placement depends not only on meeting minimum cluster points but also on competition and available programme slots.

This data is particularly useful for students seeking strategic placement into courses that offer strong career prospects without requiring top KCSE scores.
