Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has expressed sympathy for former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza following claims by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi that he helped raise Ksh 100 million to influence her impeachment in the Senate.
Linturi reportedly said the funds were mobilized from friends, MPs, and allies, describing Parliament as “compromised” and “for the highest bidder.”
His remarks sparked debate among Kenyans, with many insisting that political impeachment should strictly follow legal procedures rather than being swayed by financial influence.
In response, Senator Khalwale took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his support for the former governor.
He further urged President William Ruto’s administration to prioritize development in Kakamega County, suggesting that tangible progress is the best way to secure voter support in the upcoming general elections.
Khalwale also opposed the planned relocation of Ikolomani residents following the discovery of gold valued at KSh 383 billion, emphasizing that local leaders must be involved in any decisions affecting the community.
The senator’s intervention highlights ongoing tensions surrounding parliamentary proceedings, regional development, and political accountability in Kenya.
