I Won’t Apologize: President Ruto Fires Back at Opposition, Vows to Focus on Development

President William Ruto has defended his recent outburst against opposition leaders, saying he is not apologetic and is ready to take them head-on.

Speaking on day three of his tour of Western Kenya, President Ruto said the opposition started personality politics and must be ready to face the consequences.

During the tour, which covered Busia, Kakamega, and Bungoma counties, the President launched several development projects, including a rural electrification initiative, market construction, a 10,000-seater stadium, the Matayos-Nangina-Sio Port-Mubaka road, and the Nangina affordable housing project.

Ruto reiterated his stance from Tuesday, when he made a sharp statement targeting opposition leaders. “I am not apologetic... wao wenyewe ndio walisema wanataka personality politics,” he said.

He further challenged the opposition to bring development agendas instead of focusing on him personally.

“Mimi niliwaambia wakuje na sera wamekataa... nikawaambia wakuje na agenda wamekataa... sasa agenda yao ni William Ruto... mimi niko tayari kupelekana na wao,” he added.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, speaking from Bomet County, defended the President, urging opposition leaders to show respect if they expect Ruto to behave in a presidential manner.

“Mnataka Ruto eti akuwe presidential, I agree, but have you respected him as the president?” Kindiki asked.

Accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and other Western Kenya leaders, President Ruto expressed confidence that the development projects will transform the region and called on residents to support his two-term vision.

“Hapa Kakamega tumesema ni two term... na sisi kama ODM tunakutana wiki ijayo kuidhinisha mwelekeo wetu na UDA... Hapa magharibi hatutacheza na kura zetu sisi tumesema hatutacheza na karata ya patapotea...” he said.
The leaders concluded by rallying the region behind President Ruto’s re-election campaign.
