A Kenyan man, Mark Okina, has returned home from Qatar in a wheelchair after suffering years of abuse while working abroad. What was supposed to be a chance for a better life turned into a nightmare he will never forget.
In a statement to local media, Mark said he had traveled to Qatar seeking a job opportunity. While there, he lived with his employer’s family.
He explained that the boss’s wife treated him kindly at first—they would cook together and do other household chores as part of his daily work. Life seemed normal, and Mark felt he was doing well in his new environment.
However, everything changed one day when his boss discovered that Mark had secretly recorded the wife while she was cooking. According to Mark, this small mistake led to severe consequences.
He was dragged into a room, physically abused, and locked inside for many years without seeing the sun. The food he received was barely enough to survive.
Mark explained that his dream job quickly became a nightmare. By the time he was finally released from the locked room, his body had been severely weakened, and he could barely walk. The experience left him traumatized both physically and mentally.
Despite the suffering, Mark said he was grateful to be back home in Kenya alive. “I thank God I survived, even though what I went through was very painful,” he said.
His story serves as a warning to others seeking work abroad to be cautious and aware of potential dangers.
