Government Rolls Out Digital System to Speed Up Pension Payments

The Kenyan government has launched a new digital initiative aimed at improving the processing and payment of pensions for retired public servants.

The reforms are being implemented through the National Treasury as officials pilot a modern system designed to make pension services faster and more transparent.

Digital Platform Under Pilot Phase

According to the State Department for Public Investments and Asset Management, senior officials recently met to review the progress of the ePensions Management Information System (ePMIS), a digital platform currently undergoing pilot testing.

The meeting brought together officials from the department and the Pensions Department to assess the system’s operational efficiency and explore ways to improve service delivery to retirees.

The discussions were led by Principal Secretary Cyrell Wagunda and Pensions Secretary Michael Kagika.

Addressing Delays in Pension Payments
Officials noted that the new digital system is expected to resolve long-standing complaints from retirees about delays and lack of transparency in pension processing.

“The meeting emphasized transparency, accountability, and timely settlement of pension dues so retirees can enjoy their well-earned benefits,” the department said in a statement.

The platform will help automate pension processes, improve record management, and ensure faster verification and payment of retirement benefits.

Strengthening Capacity in the Pensions Department

During the meeting, the government also acknowledged the need to strengthen institutional capacity to ensure the success of the digital transition.

The leadership pledged to invest in staff training and improve working conditions within the Pensions Department to enhance productivity and morale.

Officials say the introduction of the ePensions Management Information System is part of a broader government effort to modernize public service delivery through technology and ensure retirees receive their benefits in a timely and predictable manner.
