Gloria Orwoba Hints at Potential Shake-Up in Nairobi’s 2027 Leadership Race

Former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba has sparked speculation about a possible shake-up in Nairobi’s 2027 gubernatorial contest.

Speaking amid growing political chatter, Orwoba highlighted rumors that MP Ndindi Nyoro could pivot his focus to the capital, a move that could dramatically reshape the race.

Orwoba suggested that Nyoro’s cross-community appeal might give him a strategic advantage in Nairobi’s diverse political landscape.

“He has goodwill among all communities,” she said, noting that such influence could challenge Babu Owino, the Embakasi East MP, who is also rumored to be eyeing the gubernatorial seat.

While Babu Owino enjoys strong support among young voters, questions are emerging about the structure of his potential ticket.

Orwoba pointed to a lingering perception issue: that his candidacy may need the backing of a more experienced political figure to reassure a wider electorate.

“The challenge he’s having is that there’s a fear his candidature must have an older person,” she remarked, raising the critical question of who could deputize him.

The comments have ignited debate across political circles, with analysts suggesting Nairobi’s race could evolve into a generational contest, pitting youthful energy against seasoned political networks.

Nyoro’s potential entry—though still unconfirmed—adds an intriguing layer, given his reputation as a calculated and disciplined strategist.

As alignments quietly take shape, all eyes are on both camps. Will Babu Owino recalibrate his strategy and secure a running mate who balances experience with his youthful appeal? Or will Ndindi Nyoro’s rumored move redefine the race before it officially begins?

For now, Nairobi waits, caught in the suspense of what could become one of the city’s most unpredictable political showdowns in recent memory.
